Teaching your Child to use the Lawn Mower
Children are often excited with the prospect of helping parents especially if the process involves being allowed to use the lawn mower for the first time. They might get bored of the activity after a while but it is essential for you to explain some basic rules that apply when using a lawn mower. - Read the lawn mower manual with your child and explain each and every point that has been mentioned. - Ensure that you check all parts of the lawn mower and satisfy yourself that they are in proper working condition before allowing your child to operate it. - Your child needs to know that hands and legs should be kept away from any moving part of the lawn mower. - It is also necessary to remove all twigs, toys or rocks from the lawn before starting the lawn mower. These objects can get stuck in the lawn mower and can cause the machine to malfunction. - Make sure that you never allow your child to operate the lawn mower on wet grass or when the weather is likely to get bad. - Instruct the child to slow down on slopes and turns so that the lawn mower can be manoeuvred properly. - If you are using a ride on lawn mower, you should ensure that the child starts the engine only after being seated comfortably in the seat and alights only after the engine is switched off. - The ride-on lawn mowers are not adequate for two people. Make sure that your child does not take his friend on a ride when operating the lawn mower. They can however take urns at operating it if they want.
